ISOC to shine the light on women who contribute to the development of the Internet

The Internet Society (ISOC) has launched a campaign aimed at recognising women who contribute to the development of the Internet, ‘Shining the Light’ on ‘women who are using the Internet to innovate and make a difference in people’s lives.’ Although there is still a significant digital divide between men and women, women who do have access to the net are more likely to use it in their daily lives. The Internet also enables them to speak out on important issues and create opportunities in education, healthcare, and government services. According to ISOC’s Kathy Brown, ‘women bring distinct perspectives and skills to the Internet’ and ‘are uniquely positioned to champion breakthroughs using the Internet for equality, poverty alleviation, better security and many other challenges.’
