Irish DPC expressed concerns over Facebook dating feature
In a statement, the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) expressed its concerns over Facebook dating feature. Facebook Ireland had first contacted the Irish DPC in relation to its intention to roll-out a new Dating feature in the EU on Monday 3 February. The DPC explained that concerns were compounded by the fact that no information/documentation was provided to the authority on 3 February in relation to the Data Protection Impact Assessment or the decision-making processes that were undertaken by Facebook Ireland. Officers of the DPC conducted an inspection at Facebook Ireland’s offices in Dublin on 10 February. Facebook then chose to postpone the roll-out of this feature, initially planned for Valentine’s day.
