Irish Data Protection Commission releases report on use of cookies and tracking technologies

After launching an examination of the use of cookies and tracking technologies on a selection of websites across sectors in August 2019, the Irish Data Protection Commission has released the results of a survey that examines the deployment and GDPR compliance of such technologies. The survey shows that 26% of controllers who responded to the survey were found to have pre-checked boxes to signal consent to cookies, including to marketing, advertising, and analytics cookies. It also indicates that almost all of the websites surveyed continue to have minor and serious compliance issues.
