Irish civil society documents new adtech’ significant data breach

According to TechCrunch, the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (ICCL) has published a new body of evidence to support its two-years legal complaint against  the unlawful exploitation of personal data via the programmatic advertising Real-Time Bidding (RTB) process. In a submission directed to the Irish data protection commission (DPC), ICCL argues the RTB process is the ‘most massive data breach yet recorded, involving millions of websites and apps, and hundreds of billions of individual data leaks per day’. It highlights for instance that a data broker company using RTB data to profile people influenced the 2019 Polish Parliamentary Election by targeting LGBTQ+ people.
