IPU Assembly adopts resolution on privacy and related freedoms

The Inter-Parliamentary Union adopted the resolution Democracy in the Digital Era and the Threat to Privacy and Individual Freedoms during the 133rd Assembly in Geneva 17-21 October. The resolution addresses the main digital policy issues and officially endorses the following principles: necessity and proportionality regarding surveillance (para. 3) and net neutrality (para. 4). Paragraph 7 implicitly urges an end to current mass surveillance practices.
