Internet shutdown in five Haryana districts ahead of farmers’ protest

According to a news report, the government authorities in Haryana State in India, have ordered the suspension of mobile internet services across five districts in the State in the wake of protests by farmers against the 28 August, 2021 police shootings which led to the death of a farmer. According to the report, a meeting between the farmers and Karnal district administration ended in stalemate with the latter refusing to ensure an investigation into the matter nor offer some form of compensation to the bereaved family. The shutdown order which came into force at midnight on Monday 6 September is expected to last till Tuesday 23:55 pm in the wake of further protests.
