Internet freedom declines for sixth straight year
The new Freedom House report Freedom on the Net 2016, Silencing the Messenger: Communication Apps Under Pressure shows that Internet freedom has declined for the sixth straight year, with social media applications being the frequent target of governments. The report shows that two-thirds of internet users are subject to censorship for things like criticism of the government, military, or current leadership and their families may trigger reprisals.
