Internet disruption in Kazakhstan amid energy price protests
According to a report by Netblocks, the internet monitoring NGO, Kazakhstan’s internet has seen a major disruption which has led to a nationwide outage. The internet shutdown which started on Tuesday 4 January 2022 come amid surging protests by citizens over the sudden rise in energy prices. The shutdown which reached a nationwide scale on Wednesday 5 January 2022 is generally believed by internet activists as a deliberate attempt by the government to limit the coverage of the escalating protest against the government.
