Indonesia to use a web crawler to identify and remove offensive content

Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has launched a web crawler – ‘Cyber Drone 9’ – to identify, and prevent access to, offensive online content. The crawler is an automated software, powered by machine learning, that analyses online content and identifies the content that should be removed or filtered. The results are sent to a verification team, which will then decide on the action to take. The Indonesian government has become increasingly concerned about the consequences of unrestricted access to the Internet, and in particular the risks related to online pornography and radicalisation.
