Indian government to launch its first quantum communication network

The Indian government is launching its first quantum communication network, known for its heightened security compared to traditional methods. Operating between two key offices in Delhi, the project led by C-DoT aims to enhance secure data transfer in sectors like banking, defense, power distribution, and healthcare. Quantum communication employs qubits, subatomic particles that can exist in multiple states simultaneously, preventing interception without detection.

The Indian government has announced the launch of its first quantum communication network, which is considered to be much more secure than traditional data transmission methods. The quantum-secure communication link is operational between Sanchar Bhawan and the National Informatics Centre (NIC) office at the Central Government Offices (CGO) Complex in Delhi. The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) will be the agency responsible for developing quantum communication, which is essential for secure data transfer in various sectors such as banking, defence, power distribution and healthcare.

The network, which relies on the principles of quantum mechanics, uses qubits (subatomic particles) to transmit information. Qubits can exist simultaneously in multiple states, making it impossible to intercept or measure the qubits without alerting the parties involved.
