Indian government taking steps to prevent online fraud

Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has taken steps to prevent online financial frauds and protect users, according to Minister Kishan Reddy. Some of the measures include:

  • Launch of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Phone Frauds composed of members of stakeholder organisations such as the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Department of Financial Services, Department of Telecommunication, Reserve Bank of India and law enforcement agencies;

  • An advisory issued on “steps to check phone frauds” to all State Governments/UT Administrations, which is available at www.mha.gov.in;

  • National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, www.cybercrime.gov.in launched by the central government to enable complainants against all types of cyber crimes, including net and online frauds, to name but a few.
