India to implement a common charging standard for electronics

India plans to implement a common charging standard for small and medium-sized portable electronic devices. This is in line with the proposal recently adopted by the EU.

India is to implement a common charging standard for electronic devices. To this end, the government is holding a meeting on 17 August with industry bodies and other stakeholders to discuss the possibility of implementing a standard similar to the one recently adopted by the European Union.

Last month, the EU passed a law requiring all small and medium-sized portable electronics (such as smartphones, tablets, cameras, and earplugs) to adopt USB Type-C as the standard charging port by September 2024.
