An undersea cable connecting Chennai, Andaman & Nicobar islands was formally commissioned by India’s Prime Minister Narenda Modi. The cable will cover seven of the Andaman & Nicobar islands in addition to Port Blair. The intent is for the cable to provide access to less expensive better connectivity and facilitate enhanced online education, tele-medicine, online banking and trading and even tourism. BSNL laid the undersea cable in under 24 months and OFC connectivity will enhance 4G mobile services on the islands.
