India to issue pension certificates through post offices

India’s Central Government has announced that pension certificates, known as Jeevan Pramaan certificates, will now be generated through post offices. This service will be available to both central and state pensioners. Jeevan Pramaan is a document certifying that a pensioner is alive. Pensioners typically queue up at pension offices to submit their physical life certificates. With the new development, pensioners can either generate the certificate at their local post office, or request for a postal officer to certify them at home. The service is based on India’s biometric ID system Aadhar.
