IG in 2016: ISOC focuses on access and trust

During the webinar ‘Digital policy and technological challenges in 2016 – What to expect?‘, organised by the Geneva Internet Platform and the Internet Society, ISOC’s Vice President of Global Policy Development, Sally Wentworth, revealed two of ISOC’s priority areas of 2016: access and trust. ‘Until we have affordable and universal access, we cannot keep the promise of an information society,’ she explained. Access turned out to be a dominant theme during the webinar, and both Wentworth and the GIP’s Jovan Kurbalija stressed the importance of ‘analogue’ solutions that should accompany the infrastructural element of connecting the unconnected. ‘Access alone is not sufficient; we need a society that uses and innovates of it,’ according to Wentworth.
