ICANN creates two committees required for the IANA stewardship transition

ICANN announced the formation of two committee required for the completion of the IANA stewardship transition. The Customer Standing Committee (CSC) will perform the oversight of the performance of the IANA naming function, thus replacing the US government (the National Telecommunications and Information Administration) in this role. The Root Zone Evolution Review Committee (RZERC) will be responsible for reviewing proposed architectural changes to the content of the root zone, the systems used in executing changes to the root zone, and the mechanisms used for the distribution of the root zone. The RZERC will make recommendations related to such changes to the ICANN Board; the Board will be responsible for approving such changes to the root zone, thus replacing the US government in this role.
