Huawei, ZTE banned from future 5G networks in Sweden
Sweden is the latest European country to ban telecoms vendors Huawei and ZTE in its upcoming 5G network in the lead up to a spectrum auction in November based on guidance from its armed forces and security service who described China as “one of the biggest threats against Sweden”.
European governments have been increasingly restricting Chinese companies from building 5G networks in response to Washington’s diplomatic pressure and allegations of spying by Beijing using Huawei equipment despite denials by Huawei. China has highlighted the lack of any absolute evidence that a threat to Sweden’s national security exists. Huawei contests that its exclusion is based on inaccurate presumption and unacceptable.
