Happy World Telecommunication and Information Society Day!

Today, the ITU celebrates the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD), this year with the theme ‘ICT Entrepreneurship for Social Impact’. The WTISD aims at raising awareness about the possibilities that the use of ICTs can bring to societies and economies, and about ways to close the digital divide. This year’s theme focuses on ways to unlock the potential of ICTs for young entrepreneurs and innovative SMEs, ‘for catalysing progress in achieving international sustainable development goals, with a focus on SMEs from developing countries.‘ The theme is accompanied by a Call for Action by Houlin Zhao, ITU’s Secretary General, in which he proposers different ways in which ITU members can contribute towards mobilising support for enterprises and ‘enable and accelerate sustainable development through ICT-enabled solutions and applications’.
