Swiss websites experienced a surge of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, believed to be orchestrated by a Russian hacker group known as NoName. The attacks disrupted access to various government websites, including those of the Federal Administration, prompting the Swiss National Cybersecurity Centre (NCSC) to swiftly respond.

NoName, notorious for politically motivated DDoS attacks, claimed responsibility, citing their alignment with pro-Kremlin interests. The attacks were linked to Ukrainian President Zelensky’s presence at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. The hackers targeted not only government sites but also local airports, railways, hotels, and restaurants.

Anticipating cyber threats, the NCSC had warned critical infrastructure operators before Zelensky’s visit, ensuring security measures were in place. NoName, with a history of over 1,500 DDoS attacks, has consistently targeted Switzerland, citing reasons such as sanctions and Swiss support for Ukraine. The group now shifts its focus to Estonia after the attacks on Switzerland.
