GSMA report: Mobile industry continues investment in Asia Pacific
GSMA released a new report that looks at the mobile economy in Asia Pacific region with a special focus on key trends that shape digital societies during the COVID-19 pandemic and how mobile connectivity contributes to economic growth and addressing social challenges. The report unveiled how growth in connectivity is helping the mobile industry increase its impact across all UN sustainable development goals (SDGs). It is also reported that developed countries across the region continue to lead in 5G deployments and use, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. The report predicts 663 million new mobile Internet users across the Asia Pacific and that 23% of total mobile connections will be running on 5G networks by 2025. It further envisages that the operator CAPEX spending will reach US$414 billion for the period 2020-2025 (80% of this will be on 5G).
