Greenpeace publishes report ‘How tech companies are helping big oil profit from climate destruction’

Greenpeace has published a report titled ‘‘How tech companies are helping big oil profit from climate destruction’ where it explored the role of tech giants such as Google, Microsoft and Amazon in provision of cloud services to oil companies such as Shell, BP and Chevron. The report acknowledges that ‘contracts between tech firms and oil and gas companies are now found in every phase of the oil and gas production chain and are significantly undermining the climate commitments that Microsoft, Google, and Amazon have made’.

From a technological point of view, cloud computing and AI algorithms help, among other things, in the discovery, extraction and marketing of oil and gas which ultimately, help oil companies improve and boost their oil production.
