Government of Canada awards over CAD$3 million for research to protect and empower Canadian consumers
According to a news report Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry of Canada has announced that the government has allocated an amount of CAD$ 3 million in funding to support 21 consumer-interest projects that will contribute to the protection and empowerment of Canadian consumers. According to the report, the fund will be available over a period of two years and can be accessed through the Contribution Programme for Non-Profit Consumer and Voluntary Organizations initiative. The research projects that the funds seek to support cover topics such as privacy protection of consumers in online stores, the accessibility of telecommunication services for the vulnerable and other consumer issues stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
