Google says it won’t use Fitbit health data for targeted ads

According to a report, Google has offered not to use Fitbit health data to target advertisements to consumers as an attempt to mitigate antitrust concerns that the EU has expressed over Google’s proposed acquisition of Fitbit. In an e-mail statement, Google said that the company values the opportunity to work with the EU on an approach that respects consumers’ expectations that Fitbit’s device data will not be used for advertising. The European Commission extended the deadline for a decision from 20 July to 4 August 2020 in response to Google’s proposal.
