Google to lower fees charged on its app store
Google announced that it is planning to reduce to 15 percent the amount it takes on subscription based apps in its Play Store for devices running its Android software. Currently, Google takes 30 percent for the first year of subscription. Some eBooks and streaming music services would be eligible for fees as low as 10 percent. The move comes after regulatory pressure challenging whether Google overcharges developers. Since the beginning of 2021, Google has faced lawsuits from 36 states in the US and Epic Games contesting Google’s fees.
