Google to build new undersea cable to connect Latin America and the U.S.

Alphabet Inc’s Google is building an undersea cable connecting the United States, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina, to strengthen internet connection capacity between these regions. The submarine cable called Fimima will be the longest cable on earth connecting the US East Coast with Las Toninas, Argentina with landings in Brazil and Uruguay. This announcement arrives in the midst of an increased demand for internet and cloud services due to the COVID-19 pandemic driving the need for virtual work, shopping and entertainment.
