Ghana plans to re-register SIM cards

​​Ghana’s Minister of Communications and Digitisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has announced that the country’s national SIM card re-registration process will start at the beginning of October. The same has been confirmed by a tweet by the country’s National Communication Authority (NCA) which indicated that SIM card re-registration will begin in October.

To register, a person will be required to have the national identity card- Ghana Card. Foreigners can use their passports to register a SIM card but the card will be deactivated after 30 days. Each Ghanain can register upto 10 SIM cards and businesses will have separate registration protocols to enable bulk registration. Citizens will have until 31 March 2022 to re-register their SIM cards.
