Gender imbalance in access to Internet is worrying, says Facebook India head

According to a news report, head of Facebook India Ajit Mohan has described as very worrying, the gender imbalance when it comes to the consumption of digital products and services. He further has called for engineers of digital platforms to consider how the divide could be narrowed when designing their products.

Highlighting what Facebook is doing to ensure more women have access to the products they design, Ajit pointed out at the India Mobile Congress that “in India, just 35% of women have access to Internet. We need to understand that there is a big gender imbalance in access to Internet here”. Ajit further echoed that one key focus of Facebook is to ensure that the products they design “cater for women’s concern about data privacy etc.”.
