FAO and Telefonica partner on deploying IoT in agriculture

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and telecom company Telefonica have concluded an agreement that would see the two parties working together on leveraging the use of digital technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and big data for agricultural development, food security, and nutrition. The agreement, to be implemented within three years, will involve initiatives focused on three main areas: implementing IoT in the agricultural sector to improve processes and the use of natural resources; using big data on weather patterns to establish early warning systems; and implementing digital education and capacity building projects.‚Äč
