Facebook’s undersea cable plans concern small Oregon coastal town

TIERRA DEL MAR in Oregon is a small coastal town without traffic lights or cell service. Residents are working to stop Facebook from leveraging property it purchased within the community as a landing spot for an undersea fiber optic cable between America and Asia. Facebook plans to link its Central Oregon data center amongst other U.S locations with Japan and the Philippines. Locals are concerned about how the drilling involved in landing the cable will compromise existing homes in an area still zoned as residential.
