Facebook sued in France for proliferation of hate speech

French Reporters Without Borders (Reporters sans frontières, RSF), an non-profit organization aiming to safeguard the right to freedom of information has filed a lawsuit against Facebook in France, accusing it of deceptive commercial practices, proliferation of hate speech and COVID-19 misinformation.

According to the statement of RSF, since ‘Facebook’s terms of service are the same all over the world, a court ruling in France on its deceptive practices has the potential for a global impact’. Facebook declined to comment, but issued a statement that it has zero tolerance for harmful content and is investing heavily to combat hate speech and misinformation, according to Reuters.
