Facebook shuts down accounts of Ugandan officials before elections

Facebook has removed accounts belonging to Ugandan government officials accused of trying to manipulate public debate before national elections. Uganda is holding presidential and parliamentary elections. The removed network of accounts was related to the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology. The network had engaged in co-ordinated inauthentic behaviour (CIB) by using fake and duplicate accounts to manage pages, comment on other people’s content, re-share posts in groups to make them appear more popular.
