Facebook launches its curated news portal outside the USA

Facebook News, which provides internet users with curated news that can be accessed through a tab on the Android or iOS app menu, was launched in the UK, the platform’s first market outside the USA. The service will have content from several local and national media organisations, such as the Daily Mail Group, Financial Times, the Guardian, and the Economist, among others. Users will have a curated list of the most popular articles of the day and a list of personalised stories based on users’ interests and data. Users can get better results from the algorithms by indicating their opinions and preferences about the articles they see. The licensing agreements Facebook has reached with publishers to place their articles in Facebook News will collectively cost the platform more than £10 million, according to TechCrunch.
