Facebook builds an artificial intelligence programme that could help catch spam

Facebook has built an artificial intelligence programme, called DeepText, that could help catch spam and other unwanted messages. The programme, which scans several thousands posts a second, and can understand text with ‘near-human accuracy’, could be used to filter out undesirable content like spam. As explained by Facebook, ‘DeepPText has the potential to further improve Facebook experiences by understanding posts better to extract intent, sentiment, and entities (e.g., people, places, events), using mixed content signals like text and images, and automating the removal of objectionable content like spam’.
