Facebook and YouTube removed a video by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro spreading medical misinformation.

Last Thursday Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro published a video in which he made false claims about COVID-19 vaccines. He misinformed people against the best available scientific evidence, claiming that vaccines were allegedly not useful to reduce the risk of contracting the disease and that they were linked with developing AIDS. The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS), stated that COVID-19 vaccines approved by health regulators are safe for most people, including those living with HIV.Spokespeople from both YouTube and Facebook explained they removed the video given that it violated company policies on spreading medical disinformation. YouTube also suspended President Bolsonaro from the platform for seven days.
