European Commission approves €400 million for very high-speed broadband in Spain
Under the EU State aid rules, the European Commission approved €400 million of public support to deploy very high-speed broadband networks which should benefit consumers and businesses in areas with poor connectivity in Spain. The fund, which will run from 2020 to 2022, aims at supporting Internet connectivity required to support the European Digital Single Market through overcoming insufficient connectivity across Spain and enhancing and expediting coverage with high-speed networks. ‘ This measure will address the digital divide between urban and rural areas in Spain. With this decision, we again endorse the use of public funds for high-speed Internet services to households and businesses in areas where private investment is insufficient,’” noted Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for a Europe Fit for the Digital Age Margrethe Vestager.
