The EU plans to harmonise the use of radio spectrum among its member states

The European Commission will present next month a legislative proposal aimed to harmonise the use of radio spectrum in the EU. The proposal will include, among others, provisions on the use of the 700 MHz Ultra High Frequency (UHF), which could allow for the expansion of wireless broadband in rural and other remote areas. While the harmonisation has been demanded for by internet providers and audiovisual companies, EU member states are expected to show resistance, as they would prefer national coordination of spectrum policy, says Euractiv.
