EU officials indicate exemptions to data protection rules allow data-sharing with US in response to COVID-19

According to Bloomberg, a panel of EU data protection regulators told the U.S. embassy in Brussels there are exemptions to EU data protection laws to allow scientists internationally to share health information. The European Data Protection Board stated that solutions that guarantee the continued protection of people’s fundamental rights to data privacy should be favored, but given the urgency of the situation, some exemptions could be applied.
