EU guidelines on sharing economy to be published in June
The EU Commission’s guidelines on how to apply existing EU legislation to the sharing economy are expected to be published in June 2016. Recognising the rapid growth of services like Uber, and the necessity to deal with the so-called ‘shared or collaborative economy’, the guidelines will explain how the Services Directive and the E-Commerce Directive, as well as consumer legislation such as the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, Unfair Contract Terms Directive and the Consumer Rights Directive, will be applicable. Their aim is to clarify regulatory issues with respect to these services and to introduce more certainty.
