The Swedish presidency of the EU Council has circulated a new compromise text on the Product Liability Directive (PLD) to clarify the liability rules for software providers in the EU. Essentially, the PLD provides a legal framework to sue the manufacturer for people who suffered material damage while using a product. Considering that PLD does not cover current issues, the new proposal aims to update the EU product liability regime in light of technological advancements by covering digital products such as software and artificial intelligence.
