Ethos announces strengthened public interest commitments for .org

Following a public engagement process, Ethos (the entity seeking to acquire the .org registry) has announced additional measures to strengthen the previously announced Public Internet Commitment (PIC) and .org Stewardship Council. For instance, Ethos commits that any potential future change to the PIC will be subject to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’ (CANN) public comment process in order to be effectuated. Moreover, the Stewardship Council Charter will be updated to reflect that the council will, in performing its duties, take into account  the Statement of Public Benefit for the Public Interest Registry (PIR), once it is rooted in a Public Benefit LLC Framework. The members of the Stewardship Council will no longer be appointed by the PIR board, but selected through an open process by an ‘internationally-recognised executive search firm’.
