Epic Games files an antitrust complaint against Apple in the UK

Epic Games filed a complaint to the United Kingdom Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to support its investigation into Apple’s anticompetitive practices. Epic Game claims that Apple violates the UK Competition Act of 1988 by enforcing restrictive rules concerning the distribution of apps and payment processing. Apple has allegedly monopolistic practices in the UK, because it prohibits app developers from offering their apps through marketplaces other than Apple’s App Store and, at the same time, obliges any in-app purchase to be processed through Apples’ own payment system. Epic Games CEO considers that these practices lead to inflated costs for consumers and stifle innovation among developers. The company seeks regulatory remedies against Apple alleged anticompetitive practices in the UK and several other countries.
