EDPS warns Europol failed to comply with data protection rules
According to Politico, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) indicated there was a “high likelihood that Europol continually processes personal data on individuals for whom it is not allowed to do so.” Following an inquiry last year, the EDPS found there was a risk that Europol processed data beyond its jurisdiction, violating the requirement to only process data on “suspects, potential future criminals, contacts and associates, victims, witnesses, and informants.”
