Domain name registrations continued to increase in the fourth quarter of 2015

In its recently published Domain Name Industry Brief, Verisign estimated an increase of approximately 15 million domain names in the fourth quarter of 2015, amounting to a 5% growth as compared to the third quarter of the same year. Registrations have grown by 25.9 million, or 9%, year over year. According to the brief, the five largest top level domain (TLD) by zone size include: .com, .tk (the country code top level domain (ccTLD) for Tokelau), .cn (the ccTLD for China), .de (the ccTLD for Germany), and .net. Registrations of domain names in new generic top level domains (gTLDs) represented 3.5% of the total of 314 million domain names registrations across all TLDs.
