As stated in a letter addressed to users, Discord first became aware of the data breach when they discovered unauthorised access to the account of one of their support agents. This breach granted hackers the ability to retrieve user data stored on the agent’s ticketing queue. Discord immediately revoked the compromised support agent’s account.

As a result of the breach, the hackers were able to acquire a range of sensitive user information, including email addresses, contents of customer service messages and any attachments sent between users and the platform. While the company believes the risk to be limited, they have recommended users remain ‘vigilant for any suspicious messages or activity, such as fraud or phishing attempts.’

In addition, Discord is collaborating with its customer service partner to establish and implement effective measures aimed at preventing similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Discord is a popular messaging and social media platform that boasts a user base of 150 million active users per month. Moreover, according to information provided on the company’s website, the platform sees a weekly usage of approximately 19 million active servers.
