Decision coming up on Meta’s EU–US data transfers

The Irish Data Protection Commission is considering blocking Meta from transferring user data between the EU and the US, with a draft decision circulated for feedback to other data protection authorities in the EU.

Ireland’s Data Protection Commission is owed over €4 billion in unpaid GDPR fines.

Politico reports that the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) plans to block Meta from sending user data from the EU to the USA. A draft decision has reportedly been sent to other data protection authorities (DPAs) in the EU for feedback.

The DPC confirmed to TechCrunch that a draft decision on the legality of Meta’s EU–US data transfers had indeed been sent to other DPAs – which have one month to react – but did not comment on the content of the draft.
