Council of Europe adopts convention on cybercrime

The Council of Europe adopted the Convention on Cybercrime (also known as the Budapest Convention), which was the first international convention on cybercrime.
The convention addresses crimes committed through the Internet and computer networks, focusing on copyright infringement, computer-related fraud, child exploitation, and network security breaches. It includes provisions for powers and procedures like network searches and data interception. As outlined in its preamble, the primary goal is to establish a unified criminal policy to protect society from cybercrime by promoting effective legislation and enhancing international cooperation.
