Costa Rica introduces biometric passport

Costa Rica ‘s Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería (DGME) has announced the introduction of new biometric passports. Citizens applying for new passports will henceforth receive a biometric passport containing a biometric chip with personal information. Data to be collected includes ten fingerprints, and gender. The new passports will contain security features such as holograms, visible figures in intaglio prints, 3D drawing, and latent image. According to DGME, citizens holding valid passports need not apply for new ones as their validity will stand. The new passports will be valid for a 10 year period.
