Convergence pushes university researchers into the private sector

In an article in the Washington Post, Stanford University professor Vivek Wadhwa warns for a brain drain in universities caused by the increasing forces of convergence. ‘Corporate executives have no idea what to do to survive this tsunami of technlogy convergence’, he writes, ‘and not having domain experts…, most companies have no idea how to repond to these new threats’. Instead of having their brightest minds being lured away to businesses, universities ‘are better off forming industry partnerships to jointly develop technology’.
