Continued debate on taxation of Internet firms

After last week’s update about the EU’s decision to order Apple to pay up to €13 billion in Irish taxes, tax debates continue to be in the news. For example, Austrian Chancellor Christian Kern said in an interview that international Internet giants, such as Amazon, are paying less taxes than a ‘sausage stand’ or ‘Viennese cafe’. Furthermore, in Vietnam, Uber’s tax avoidance has been criticised. Having no representation or legal entity in the country to avoid taxation, passangers and drivers have little legal protection, according to an article in a Vietnamese newspaper.
