CNIL provides guidance on facial recognition in airports

CNIL, the French data protection authority, has released a set of guidance for the use of facial recognition technologies in airports. CNIL distinguishes in particular four principles to be observed regarding necessity, consent and maintenance of the data. With regard to biometric data, the CNIL reiterates the need to give priority to storing them on a medium on which the individual has exclusive use and control. The objective is to limit the risk of hacking associated with the centralization of biometric database.
